When you plan a celebration night, a romantic summer date, or simply a Jacuzzi get together, there is one wine that will suit amazingly well: Moscato d’Asti.
As you already guessed, it comes from Asti in the Piemonte region of North Italy, located only 300 km from the world famous French resort Nice. Moscato d’Asti is always associated with summer, beach, celebration and lots of fun. It is a sweet wine with a very low level of alcohol, bubbly and refreshing. It is so light that you can drink it as a lemonade on a hot summer day. Somehow it reminds of the Italian easiness, love for life and French finesse and delicacy.
In wine production fermentation of the grape juice is an important process, it is the transformation of yeast and sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide (bubbles). In case of Moscato d’Asti the fermentation is stopped before all sugar is transformed into alcohol which makes it sweet and low in alcohol. The leftover sugar in wine is called residual sugar and our Moscato d’Asti is full of it which makes it a top choice for a sweet tooth.
Moscato is a great alternative to Champagne if you do not like dry wines but want bubbles. It has very strong aromas and flavors of passion fruit, peach and apricot. It would make a great brunch wine, try it out instead of regular mimosa to add some diversity. You can also pair it with desserts after a dinner, go for desserts with tropical fruits. Now if you want to spice-up your lunch or dinner make a very hot Indian food, do not be shy to use a lot of chili, and pair with Moscato d’Asti. Sometimes the most unexpected pairings are the best.
